The foundation of our democracy relies upon the ability to host fair elections that are free from foreign and domestic interference. The 2016 election was plagued with Russian influence in an attempt to undermine our elections and thus our democracy. This interference affects every facet of society, including small businesses across the country. Business 4 Protecting The Election is a campaign supported by small businesses in this country and we are demanding action on election security.
There are numerous election security bills currently sitting in the Senate waiting to be voted on. Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell needs to allow a vote on these bills in the Senate in order to ensure a fair election in 2020.
The SHIELD Act of 2019 (H.R. 4617):
- Creates a duty to report illicit offers of campaign assistance from foreign governments and their agents.
- Helps prevent foreign interference in future elections by improving transparency of online political advertisements.
- Closes loopholes that allow foreign nationals and foreign governments to spend in U.S. elections.
- Restricts exchange of campaign information between candidates and foreign governments and their agents.
- Prohibits deceptive practices about voting procedures.
Senate Resolution 1319
- Establishes an Election Security grant program.
Senate Resolution 2053 (SAFE Act)
- Protects elections for public office by providing financial support and enhanced security for the infrastructure used to carry out such elections, and for other purposes.
Senate Resolution 2238 (SAFE Act)
- Protects elections for public office by providing financial support and enhanced security for the infrastructure used to carry out such elections, and for other purposes.
Senate Resolution 1540 (Election Security Act)
- To protect elections for public office by providing financial support and enhanced security for the infrastructure used to carry out such elections, and for other purposes.

-Require campaigns to report to the FBI contributions by foreign nationals.
-Protect lawmakers from foreign cyberattacks.
-Provide $600 million in election assistance to states and require paper ballots.
-Require Internet companies to disclose purchasers of political ads to identify foreign influence.
-Promote cooperation between state election officials and federal intelligence agencies.
-Impose sanctions on any entity that attacks a U.S. election.
-Impose severe new sanctions on Russia for its cybercrimes.
